Drycleaning & Laundry Institute membership saves members money. Not intangible money but actual savings in the form of gift certificates from popular industry companies. Members of DLI’s Board of Directors invited Allied Trades Members, industry service providers, suppliers, and manufacturers who support the industry and Institute, to provide direct discounts on products members buy and use regularly.
2022 Course Offerings Include On-Site, Virtual, and a Combination of Both
The Drycleaning and Laundry Institute released plans for its School of Drycleaning Technology courses throughout 2022. This year DLI offers a host of options for students, including On-Site Courses, Virtual Courses, and Blended Learning (a combination of virtual and on-site training).
Beginning June 16 & 17, members of the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI) began tapping into the wealth of experience of their peers DLI’s new Marketing Lab peer review group. In the group, DLI members develop marketing efforts together, or just help each other tweak current efforts. From plans to final pieces and implementation, members will present marketing ideas to a group of their peers for live, immediate feedback. Ideas shared in the group are available to all members of the group, giving members access to a collective idea machine. In-group collaboration will help make marketing pieces stronger.
DLI Forming New Groups, Space is Limited
DLI’s Inner Circle, The Drycleaning & Laundry Institute’s new, virtual management group program, held its first meeting Thursday, February 25. The program is spearheaded by Diana Vollmer with Ascend Consulting Group, a veteran management group director. The group is composed of 13 members from the U.S. and Canada. While this group is up and running, DLI plans to add more groups to the program and is currently accepting registrations for members to join a group.
“We talked about the state of the industry and what immediate opportunities are available, what you can do now, during Covid, to help sustain and grow your business,” said Brian Johnson, DLI’s Director of Education and group liaison.
Members of the group also forged new relationships, with some members sharing contact information to discuss ideas in more detail between quarterly meetings.
Everything changed as Spring was starting. The novel coronavirus epidemic bloomed into a full-blown global pandemic and the economy stalled. Drycleaning sales across the U.S. and world dropped as much as 85% virtually overnight. The industry has since been in a long, slow recovery. This downturn is lasting longer than most drycleaning business owners first imagined.
From the start of the pandemic in mid-March, DLI began an ongoing effort to offer a host of COVID-19 updates and links to all professional cleaners DLI could reach, members or not. DLI quickly decided that COVID-related information was too important to the public health to restrict to members only and should be openly shared with the entire industry.
TO HELP DLI MEMBERS IN THE “NEW NORMAL” BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT, DLI IS SHARING READY-MADE FACEBOOK POSTS AND PRINTABLE PIECES TO HELP MEMBERS PROMOTE THEIR SERVICES. DLI began posting new sets of designs weekly in April.
Inside the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute’s Laurel, Maryland, headquarters is what has been called the CSI of drycleaning. It’s the International Textile Analysis Laboratory (ITAL), a high-tech investigative unit of DLI that works backward to figure out how garments and other textile items compromised in processing met such unfortunate ends, much like crime scene investigations.
Web interface and mobile app for the Encyclopedia of Drycleaning bring the entirety of DLI’s vast stores of knowledge and research to members’ fingertips.
Members know they can turn to DLI whenever they have a question about any facet of running a drycleaning business. After more than a century of helping operators succeed, the association has witnessed and handled nearly every situation a fabricare professional might encounter—and what’s more, it has researched and written about it.
DLI’s comprehensive reference, the Encyclopedia of Drycleaning, is the repository of that knowledge. Included in Silver-level and higher memberships, the Encyclopedia of Drycleaning is a members-only feature that contains the many thousands of articles, advisories, and other releases DLI has produced over the decades.
