A new year offers a new start and the renewal of optimism. We all seem to reflect that in our New Year’s Resolutions. The stats, however, suggest our follow through has room for improvement. Apparently fewer than 25% of people actually stay committed to their resolutions until February, and only 8% continue with them through year end.

We all approach improving our lives and our businesses in our own ways. At DLI, our New Year’s Resolution is simple—do it better. Sometimes you have to change it even if it isn’t broken. There was nothing wrong with the DLI website but in addition to a new look we wanted to improve its functionality. We wanted to make it easier for our members to find the information they need—and I think we accomplished that. If you haven’t visited the website, please do and let me know what you think.
Fabricare is getting an update in the new year. We want to bring you information you don’t see in other industry publications. There will be features on members doing new and innovative things with their businesses, technical bulletins on not only drycleaning skills but business matters, and information on what is happening in your area. Our goal is to make every page worth reading!
The regulatory front for our industry has been fairly quiet the last couple of years but as you will read in this issue that is not likely to continue in the new year. Single use plastic bags are an environmental hot button and PFAS is the new contamination issue and of course perc solvent use is still there. Our goal is to be proactive on these issues and have a seat at the table. This way we can hopefully help shape the outcome and not just react to what comes the industry’s way. This will take the efforts of all of us—members, local associations, and DLI staff. When all of us work together, as was the case in Los Angeles, we can accomplish much.
As an industry we have survived and adapted, our resolution for 2023 to flourish! We resolve to be one of the 8% who work on our commitments until 2024 and beyond.
Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support!
