As I come towards the end of my term as President, I am proud to say, “ALL IS WELL!”
For any of you that have been around for a while, that wasn’t always the case. There were many years that the organization was bleeding with financial problems, discontent employees, and a split board room.
I would love to say that I had a hand in turning those issues around, but that is not the case. When I took over the job, the leadership that came before me had already fought those battles.
We should all thank some great people that came before me including Allan Johnson, Greg Meyers, and Dave Beatty, the three Presidents that served before me. These people set DLI on a course of fiscal and operational excellence.
Today DLI lives within its budget, continues to improve our membership benefits, and has a clear vision of the future.
I would be remiss without mentioning our current CEO Mary Scalco. My father used to say, “There is nothing more valuable than one good hire.” Mary certainly gives validation to Dad’s old saying.
You can’t teach someone to care; it is an intrinsic part of who they are. Mary’s attention to detail, her willingness to go the extra mile, and her employees’ morale, speaks to her interpersonal skills.
As the industry battles piece count reduction, casual dress, and upcoming generations that find it acceptable to wear shorts to a wedding, may I recommend that if you are interested in keeping your world “All is well,” that you leverage what DLI has to offer.
There are so many tools there for the taking!
In closing, I would like to thank each of you for having faith in me!
My hope is that I left the organization just a little better than I received it.
Blessings to All!!
Mike Nesbitt, DLI President 2017-2018
